Migration of DFN-Message-Handling Service

Since the beginning of 1986 the Canadian Mailsystem EAN has been used in DFN. EAN is available for three operating systems: DEC-VMS, D E C U N I X B S D / U L T R I X , PCS-UNIX-V. About 40 installations are in operation, and about 20 further installations are in preparation (see Table 1). EAN does not fully conform with the C E N / CENELEC functional standard. There is a number of differences in varies parts of the protocol and there is an important difference in the addressing area. Instead of Standard Attributes (STDAs: Country, ADMD, PRMD, Organization, Organizational Units, Surname) EAN uses the PRMD field and Domain Defined Attributes (DDAs). People from G M D has therefore changed EAN to a DFN-version which is able to address STDAs, and which conforms with the C E N / C E N E L E C functional standard.
